Ears need cleaning to remove dirt and debris,
to prevent infections from forming and to keep your Yorkie happy. A dog's ears needs proper cleaning, so you do not accidentally cause damage to them.
DO NOT USE COTTON BUDS OR ANYTHING SHARP TO DIG DEEP
DO NOT USE PEROXIDE or ALCOHOL AS A EAR-CLEANING SOLUTION
Things You'll Need:
• Tweezers
• Cotton balls
• Ear-cleaning solution (you can find at a local pet shop or at your vet)
Instructions:
1. Look at the ears to locate signs of infection. A brown or red discharge or a strange odour coming from the ears can indicate an infection. If you notice signs of infection— redness, swelling, sensitivity to touch, or a foul odor — take your dog to the vet immediately.
2. Pluck loose hair from the inside of the ears with tweezers. Remove loose hairs or hairs that have matted inside the ears. Smooth the hair out with a comb or your fingers.
3. Dampen (Squeeze out any excess water) a cotton ball with water. Wipe the inside of the ear with the cotton ball and exchange it for a new one when it becomes dirty.
4. Clean the ear leather, but avoid pushing the cotton ball inside the ear canal. Wipe the crevices and small areas of the ear.
5. Soak a cotton ball with an ear-wash formula. Squeeze out any excess ear-wash formula. Insert the cotton ball inside the dog's ear. Rub gently to remove dirt.
6. Let the dog shake off the excess moisture. This will help prevent ear infections. Allow a veterinarian to clean the inside of a dog's ear canal. This will prevent you from causing damage, and it will also prevent infections from forming.
